Method
Mashed
- Simply use a fork to mash the avocados, mix in a sprinkle of lemon juice, scoop the mashed avocado into ice cube trays, and freeze. You can keep the avocados in the ice trays. However, I prefer to take the frozen avocados out of the ice trays and transfer them into an air-tight container. This not only takes less space in the freezer than ice trays, but also allows the avocado to maintain its quality for longer.
Cubed
- Cut the avocados in halves, slice the flesh into quarters, and use a spoon to scoop it out from its shell. Arrange the individual pieces onto a baking tray(lined with baking paper), making sure the pieces do not touch each other,sprinkle the pieces of avocado with some lemon juice, and freeze for at least30 minute or until frozen. Once frozen, transfer the avocado pieces into a zip-lock bag or air-tight container.
Pureed
- This method is very similar to preparing mashed avocados. However, instead of using a fork to mash the avocados, use a blender to puree the avocados. Once pureed, mix in some lemon juice. Then, transfer the pureed avocado into ice cube trays. Store them the same way as you would with mashed avocados (please refer above).
Halved
- This is probably the easiest way to freeze avocados. Simply cut the avocados in halves, remove the seed and skin. Place the avocado halves onto a tray lined with baking paper and sprinkle over lemon juice. Turn them over and do the same on the other side. Place the tray in the freezer for about 1 hour or until frozen. Once frozen, transfer them into zip-lock bags or air-tight containers.
Frozen avocados for smoothies
- To prepare your avocados, cut them in half, slice the flesh into quarters, and use a spoon to scoop it out from its shell. Arrange the individual pieces onto a baking tray (lined with baking paper), making sure the pieces do not touch each other, and freeze for at least 30 minute or until frozen. After this time, you can remove them from the freezer and use immediately, or transfer them into a zip-lock bag or container, and store in the freezer for future use. This is a great way to keep your avocados if you have too many.As we will be using the avocados while they are still frozen in smoothies, there is no need to use lemon juice on them before freezing.
