This creamy Matcha Latte is a comforting and cozy drink that you can make in only two steps with two ingredients.

Being the matcha addict that I am, it is no surprise that matcha latte is one of my favourite go to drinks.
As I live in a small country town on the Fleurieu Peninsula in Australia, I would always have to drive a fair distance to get my matcha latte fix. However, with this simple recipe, I am now able to make it whenever I want and enjoy it from the comfort of my home.
In typical matcha latte recipes, you will need to use a matcha whisk to mix the matcha powder with some water before adding it to your milk. I love this recipe as I am able to skip this step – saving me time and extra dishes!
What is Matcha?
Matcha is young green tea leaves that is ground into a fine powder. Matcha is traditionally from East Asia. The finest matcha can be found in Japan, where it has been grown for centuries and is a part of the traditional Japanese tea ceremony.
Matcha vs Green Tea
Unlike normal green tea leaves, the tea leaves used to produce matcha is specially grown under shade. This allows for more chlorophyll content to be present in these tea leaves, giving them their bright green colour and packing them full of nutrients.
As matcha comes in a powder form, you would consume the whole leave and therefore get as much nutrients as it has. However, according to Louise Cheadle, co-author of The Book of Matcha, drinking a brewed green tea “is a bit like boiling spinach, throwing away the spinach and just drinking the water”. “You will get some of the nutrients, but you’re throwing away the best bit.”
Is Matcha good for you?
This homemade matcha latte is a nourishing way to treat yourself, as matcha has many nutritional benefits. Matcha is high in antioxidants. It also contains less caffeine than coffee (if you are sensitive to caffeine, it might be worth noting that matcha is not caffeine free). Lastly, matcha is known to boost relaxation and alertness.
How to make Matcha Latte?

Ingredients
- Matcha green tea powder
- Milk
Equipment
- Electric milk frother
Instructions
- Add milk and matcha to the milk frother and froth for one cycle.
