This delicious five-spice sticky beef ribs takes less than one hour to make, but taste like you’ve slaved over them for hours!

What you’ll need…

  • Canola oil
  • Beef short ribs
  • Hoisin sauce
  • Orange juice
  • Honey
  • Sesame oil
  • Chinese five-spice powder
  • Soy sauce
  • Minced garlic

Optional toppings

  • Sesame seeds
  • Spring onions

How to make these Five-Spice Sticky Beef Ribs?

Heat oil in a 6-litre pressure cooker. Add and cook the beef short ribs, turning them until browned all over. Add remaining ingredients to the pressure cooker, and carefully turn the ribs to coat.

Secure the lid. Set the pressure cooker to cook for 20 minutes. Carefully release the pressure.

Remove beef ribs from sauce. Boil the sauce in the cooker for 10 minutes or until it has thickened.

Serve the beef short ribs drizzled with the sticky sauce and garnished with toppings.

Can I make this dish in advance?

This delicious Chinese five-spice beef ribs recipe is great to make in advance. This dish is perfect for meal prep. Once cooked, simply transfer the ribs and sauce into an air-tight container, cool, and either store in the fridge for up to one week, or in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 tbsp canola oil
  • 1 kg beef short ribs
  • 160 ml hoisin sauce
  • 125 ml orange juice
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tsp chinese five-spice powder
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 4 tbsp garlic minced

Toppings

  • sesame seeds
  • spring onions thinly sliced

Instructions
 

  • Heat oil in a 6-litre pressure cooker. Add and cook the beef short ribs, turning them until browned all over. Add remaining ingredients to the pressure cooker, and carefully turn the ribs to coat.
  • Secure the lid. Set the pressure cooker to cook for 20 minutes. Carefully release the pressure.*
  • Remove beef ribs from sauce. Boil the sauce in the cooker for 10 minutes or until it has thickened.
  • Serve the beef short ribs drizzled with the sticky sauce and garnished with toppings.

Notes

*Instead of releasing the pressure immediately after the timer goes off,  wait for about 10 minutes.  This will allow most of the pressure to be released by itself, making it easier for you.
